The remnants of the mini-train tunnel are located to the right of the current site. This tunnel served as an important coal transportation route in Keelung during the Japanese colonial period and was the precursor to today’s Taiwan Railway Administration Shen'ao Branch Line.
Constructed in the 1930s by the Taiwan Mining Company, this railway was primarily built to develop the gold mines in Jinguashi. The line extended from Shuishandang Station to Bachaimen, facilitating the transport of gold and copper ores from Jiufen and Jinguashi to Keelung Harbor, where they were subsequently exported to Japan.
After World War II, the railway was taken over by the Taiwan Gold and Copper Mining Bureau. However, due to mismanagement, operations were suspended for a time. With the increasing demand for coal from the Shen'ao Thermal Power Plant, the Taiwan Railway Administration later renovated the line and restored both passenger and freight services.
Nonetheless, aging infrastructure and operational challenges eventually led to the railway’s decline, leaving behind a cherished memory in the history of Taiwan’s railway development.
